Hautes-Pyrénées
Taste the sweetness of living in the mountains.
Our small, welcoming, peaceful Pyrenean villages have preserved all of their charm throughout the years. Did you know this?
The 'Hautes-Pyrenees' region concentrates the largest number of small villages accross France.
Typical architecture of the Valley of Campan, charming villages in the Val D'Azun, painted churches in the Louron...
The villagers warmth, good food, comfortable accommodation, each valley welcomes you in all of its simplicity.
Just like our villages, our ski resorts are not snow factories but on the contrary, human-sized convivial resorts where the sense of welcome is inborn, in other words the perfect place to spend your holidays. Slide down the ski slopes, take a break in the sun outside a mountain top restaurant, contemplate the nature surrounding you, participate in the torch lit descent, relish a soup with friends in the restaurant, doze off in front of a chimney fire, relax and have fun is your only obligation when you are on holiday.
You don't know the Pyrenees; here are some tips to understand us better!
Pyrenean atmosphere - here is a definition for the newbie's!
The Pyrenean atmosphere is...
Recognizing the birds of prey in the sky thanks to your ski instructor who is also a shepherd in summer.
Sing «Montagnes Pyrénées» (a tribute to our mountains) at all good occasions (meal, torch lit descent or simple personal desire)... Around here the mountain song is in the blood!
Taste the Noir de Bigorre (it's an ancient race of pigs with excellent ham!) with a good Madiran (it's the local wine!) and feel free to comment on its flavour with the hostess (we can have different opinions!)
Stop on the side of a road, see the shepherd take out his flocks and finish your day in his sheep barn by tasting his cheese- come on he sees well that you are dying to taste it and he is very much proud of his work.
It's, it's... Parts of life to share endlessly with the «natives», they love their country, they are proud of it and they would really like you to love it as well. This is why you must inevitably discover this area; this is the «Pyrenean Atmosphere»!
